"Inti" is the Incan God of the Sun. Inti-Mate is a South American inspired American Smoked Wheat Ale infused with Yerba Mate leaves from Argentina and a light touch of lemon peel for tartness. Before industrialized processes were introduced Yerba Mate leaves were cured with smoke so we wanted to highlight that in the brew. It is also a common practice in Chile to use a little lemon, grapefruit or lime zest to compliment the drink. What you end up with is an excellent smoked ale character and the tea-like quality of traditional Yerba Mate. Imbiber beware, Yerba Mate is packed with caffeine and we can't guarantee it didn't translate to the brew!
This ale was brewed for the Willamette Week ProAm Festival in collaboration with Portland native Warren Holmes. When he's not hard at work as a nurse he's down in Chile and Peru helping startup breweries lock in and refine their process.
